looking back on 2014

looking back on 2014

2014 was a year. There were wonderful things, a few slumps, and even a few moments where I wasn't so sure I was gonna make it through. But I think it's safe to say that we're coming out on the other side, and I'm gonna look back and choose to remember all the great stuff. Because when I take it all in, I'm a little overwhelmed with all that 2014 held.

2014 was the year I finished my first book! The process brought a few tears, but they're worth it now that I'm anticipating holding a copy very soon. This year I made four quilts. Who would've expected that? Four books that I contributed to were released this year, and I secretly worked on more projects for future titles. This includes some stuffed toys that I kinda fell in love with.

It's easy to forget how many things I made for my blog throughout the year (my 10th year of blogging!), but looking back, I realized just what that included. Even though I had times of posting less often, I still managed to create over 200 posts! I guess I was busier than I thought? I think that's one reason that I love having a blog. It's a nice documentation of my crafty life. So with that in mind, here are a few of my favorite posts from this year.

In 2014 I suddenly learned that I liked sewing stuffed animals and other creatures. I also discovered that safety eyes are a great way to give them the character of my Wild Olive faces.

As my sewing skills grew, I found that it opened up a whole new world of crafting opportunity. Thank you for letting me share this discovery with all of you!

I love a good printable, especially when it comes with a cute face.

And as I've mentioned, hand work is my friend. Slow work is my friend. Animal sewing accessories are also my friends.

More than anything, I learned this year that taking some pressure off yourself is necessary. Which is why as I look forward to 2015, I'm going to do my best to eliminate some extras in my life that create more pressure, and I'm going to look back and remember what was probably one of the most important posts I wrote all year.

What did you love in 2014? What are you glad to leave behind?

  1. My favorite has to be the flying squirrel needle minder. I made one and it just makes me smile every time. Thank you for such an adorable little pick me up.

  2. I also learned in 2014 that I needed to take some pressure off myself!! I sew for charity and I felt like I just couldn't sew enough to fill all the need! Now I have chosen a few charities to continue sewing for and I feel much better! I'm glad to leave that behind! I'm looking forward to enjoying sewing as my HOBBY again in 2015!! :)

    1. I agree with you. It has been a long time she is doing blogging and embroidery. I am very much inspired with her passion of embroidery. I would like to see more of her designs in 2015. Anyways! Happy New Year to everyone.

  9. The highlight of the past year has been starting--and following through with--my own crafting/needlework blog. I'm a lifelong "maker," but the thought of putting my work out there was scary. Luckily, I found a lot of inspiration and encouragement by following Wild Olive and other crafty blogs. I hope 2015 brings even more creative joy to you and all of us crafters, stitchers, knitters, and makers!
