happy thanksgiving stripes...

what i wore today...

Just a bit of stripes peeking today...but it's Thursday, so what did we expect?

I hope your day is filled with family and food and lots of giving thanks! Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

i love wearing stripes...

Stripes are super cool, and I have a lot of them in my wardrobe. Somehow it happened that they frequently came out on Thursdays. And so this is what I love: Wearing stripes on Thursdays.

polaroid week stripes...

Every year on Flickr (and other places around the internets...) there is a very special thing known as Polaroid (or just 'roid) Week. It is a time to celebrate the loveliness that is photos taken by a nearly forsaken camera and film.

At this point, I have not taken a single shot, nor have I ever during 'roid week. But I can still admire the lovely images that there are to be seen. Especially when they have stripes!

Maybe, maybe I just might see if I can dig up a camera and a good pack of film around here...

beret stripes...

Yesterday, I stopped at my local Anthropologie. You know, just to drool for a while. While I was there, I found a granny stripe beret for just $10! But I didn't get it. It wasn't quite slouchy enough.

Instead, I did a search on Etsy and found these:

None are quite what I was thinking of though, so I may need to consider making one. I found this pattern, but I'm not sure. Anyone have a nice slouchy granny stripe beret pattern? Perhaps I'm asking for too many specifics...

Happy Thursday, friends! I hope you're wearing stripes today!

sashiko stripes...

sashiko1

sashiko2

I've really been drawn to sashiko lately. This can probably be attributed to my love of the running stitch, Japanese things, and of course, stripes. I have this book of examples (no instruction) of the simple, yet complex embroidery style, but haven't tried any. Yet.

There are all kinds of wonderful images of sashiko online, and these are just the more stripey ones. And there are some really cool patterns available, plus the oh so lovely thread (which looks a bit like crochet thread?).

This is definitely on my list of things to try, and soon. You know, because I need to add to my overflowing baskets and boxes and bags and bins of craft supplies. But it's just so beautiful!

The other night I got to thinking about my list of goals for this year. Almost all ten have come together in one form or another, but there is one that I'm having doubts about. The jumbo granny square blanket. You see, I started, but ran into a yarn issue. And now, there isn't much time left in the year, with still many other crafts to craft.

Will I accomplish this goal? I don't know, but I will say that these lovely (Thursday!) stripes are certainly inspiring me to give it my best...

striped with envy...

Oh dear, is right. I have discovered the most wonderful store. I would probably be happy with everything that Lark Handmade sells. Like this striped dear cup. But most of all, this coordinating lunch bag, which I would totally use as a purse:

They also have pretty candies in pretty striped bags...

And a super wonderful vintage-looking craft kit...

Want to know what makes me sad about this? They are located in Australia, and shipping is nearly as much as the items! Sigh...

But I think (I think!) that I may be able to locate a few of these a bit closer...

I was looking through Etsy treasuries, and I found a beauty. Vintage. Color-Coordinated. Stripes. Of course, they had me at the stripes, and all the rest was icing on the cake.

You'll find this lovely collection, curated by Etsy seller MissPott, at {Vintage Geometry}

You know, I never tire of wearing stripes on Thursday, but sometimes finding good stripey things to blog about can be a challenge to me. Thank goodness there are so many fun things out there to hunt down.

Do you have any stripes to share?

sharing stripes...

Did you know that you are really good at motivating me? You are.

I've been working slowly at stitching this new embroidery pattern, but it would go a lot slower if it weren't for the fact that I promised to share this with you, and I can't let you down! (Fine, so maybe you don't care that much, but let me think that you do...it helps.)

So, what I'm sharing here is:

1) Me wearing stripes on a Thursday.

2) A half-finished cuckoo clock.

cuckoo...

This is definitely more involved that what I usually do, but I'm loving it.

My grandpa has a cuckoo clock, which stopped working not too long ago. It has always been a favorite thing at my grandparents' house, especially when I got to pull the chains to wind it! This clock looks NOTHING like his, but it is still inspired by it. And when it is done, I can see this hanging in our dining room. Hopefully my mom will see it the same way!

stripes of bacon...

Truth: I don't eat real bacon.

When I made the magnetic bookmarks, the bacon was added at the last minute. My sister decided it was her favorite, so that's how it ended up being featured in the photos. That striped, strip of pork made that download the most popular thing I've ever created. Crazy. (It's a good thing I didn't make it turkey bacon!)

YIP2010 - 244

Even though I don't necessarily agree, it seems that most people think that bacon makes everything better. owing to that, I've created some Spoonflower fabric called: "Bacon makes everything better..."

bacon stripes

Not only is each piece of bacon striped, the overall pattern sort of forms stripes, so I think that it is only right to share this with you today. Because it's Thursday.

Now, want to make something out of my "Bacon makes everything better..." fabric? You can purchase it here.

around the house stripes...

It's Thursday! And I have pictures of stripes! I thought it would be fun to take my camera around the house, and just find the stripes that I'm surrounded by. There were lots, so you can find more of them on Flickr...

Oh, and these stripes are made possible by a healthy computer. I have Mike from SaveMyButt.com to thank...he knows his stuff AND he's a really nice guy.

imprisoned stripes...

On Thursdays I wear (and now blog about) stripes.

Today's stripes are rather dark and dreary, but so very cool. I saw this series of paintings/prints that depict being imprisoned in different ways. In several of them, the stripes are the only thing that really scream out prisoner, but when you look closely, or consider the titles, you see it. The one above is called "Spinster" and you can find it here.

The history of the term spinster is an interesting one, and as a single 30-year-old who works with thread a lot, I fear that the term applies to myself far too much! Fortunately, I don't feel too imprisoned by this, and trust that if God has someone in mind for me, we'll find each other.

Back to the artwork. You can find all kinds of melancholy and macabre lovelies at The Little Fox's blog and shop.

It's Thursday (or at least it was when I wrote this and thought that it would post), and I couldn't let the day go by without some stripes. I know, you're looking at these pictures and thinking, "wait...there's no stripes there..."

Well, there will be! I've been trying to decide what I should paint on this canvas, and now I know. It will be a stripey painting, and I can't wait...

(PS: Don't miss Tara's giveaway below!)

christmas stripes...

christmas stripes

Here we are at Thursday again. Where has time been getting to? Today I took a stripey photo with some Christmas-y things. Why? Because today is the first day of the Etsy Christmas in July sale! Which means...all Christmas items in my shop are 25% off! The sale runs through the 25th, and all prices are already marked. There's even a combo pack of all Christmas embroidery patterns that has an even better discount...

As I was getting all of my Christmas items re-listed, I did sort of chuckle at the Winter Warmers pattern. It's soooo hot here right now, and the idea of mittens and scarves just makes me laugh!

YIP2010 - 196

And because it's so warm, I had to go with a sort of modified stripe to wear today. The stripes go in two directions. I know that some people call this "plaid," but on Thursdays I wear stripes. So that's what this is...a nice and cool "striped" dress.

stitching stripes...

nothing specific (yet)

Every time that I think that I should add a weekly "feature" to this blog, it goes nowhere. Sometimes I get tired of it, or sometimes I forget. But for over a year, I've been wearing stripes almost every Thursday. This I remember. (And yes, you've heard me say that on Thursday I wear stripes before. Secretly, I hope the idea will catch on...)

So I got to thinking, if I can remember stripes in my wardrobe, maybe I can remember to blog about stripes too. We'll see. No promises.

Anyway, above you see some simply stitched, beautifully stitched, stripes. Without an end plan in mind, Sonia made these with bits of leftover floss. But then she came up with something lovely. See the process and final product at her blog!

And just to prove it, here I am today...in stripes.
