vintage craft: peri-lusta embroidery floss

Vintage embroidery floss holds a special place in my heart. I just love it so much, and keep it for using on special projects. Maybe that's silly.

I've had this box of Peri-Lusta floss for a while, but haven't used any of it. I think it's because it is tucked inside its sweet little box. According to the package, it originally contained 36 skeins of 707 Beige Gray floss, which makes me think it was purchased for a large project. Or maybe someone had a thing for this color, much as I do for DMC 838 Brown.

Inside it is wrapped up with delicate tissue, and a few other Peri-Lusta colors have been stored with the Beige Gray.

How delightful are these shades? Neutral, but not. Soft, but strong. Whomever these belonged to (I think it was a family member, but I'm not sure) had some good taste.

Ooooh, and I found a really cool, really old embroidery book online. Singer Instructions for Art Embroidery is about doing machine embroidery and is available to download in several formats...for free! I especially like the Seed Stitch on pages 22-23. Go check it out, because this is a vintage craft treasure.

Thanks for all of the printable book review love! You're too sweet!

It's totally not silly to save special old things for special projects. I think it makes things just that little bit more lovely =) x

  4. Those colours are beautiful! I always find vintage finds of any sort very inspiring and most often because of the mixes of colour. It must be wonderful to find some one's personal choices :)

  5. Funny how everyone has their "thing". In all my years of thrift storing and vintage hunting, never have I come across vintage floss. I'm sure it's been out there, but it's never caught my eye before. Kind of like how you hear a new vocabulary word and then hear it three more times within the first week of knowing it... I'm sure I'll find vintage floss now!!
...and if it were me, I would have bought a whole box of that color, too.
