Being a very non-sports fan, the Super Bowl really isn't my thing. But as for many non-sports fans, it's worth watching just for the commercials.
To prepare for the upcoming ad amusement, check out these 1980s commercials from Hungary. You don't have understand a word for it to be funny. In fact, that helps! (via MetaFilter)
Guilty pleasure: Wife Swap?
With the new season of Alias, the show has become somewhat interesting again, and I've gone back to watching. This is fine. I see nothing wrong with that. But I'm ashamed to say, when the show is over, I don't change the channel or turn the TV off. Instead, I find myself sucked in to the show that is Wife Swap.
There is something so shocking and amusing about watching two women switch lives. The families are so extremely different, they can't help but learn at least something from the process. Things learned: a vacuum cleaner is a good thing, your teenager doesn't need breakfast in bed every day, spend time with your kids. When I first learned about this show, even saw commercials for it, I thought, "What a dumb idea." But I now admit, it's fun watching people's well ordered lives get turned upside down!

Illustration Friday: Gluttony?
I could never understand why so many displayed their illustrations before Friday. Now I can see that it may be due to the excitement of having it done early!
Anyway, here is a gluttonous little hamster. I've always enjoyed the way they pack so many seeds into their cheeks. And pulling them out again...lots of fun. The last time I had a hamster, my cat tried to fit the hamster into her cheeks.
Come on, get happy?
Sometimes I wonder how I could manage to miss seeing something so wonderful. I come across these little things on the internet, and go, "Where have I been?" Such is the case with the Happy Tree Friends.
I first heard about them from the same site that I mentioned yesterday. They have a very funny short about these little guys. So then I had to see what I could find about them. It seems that there are many short animated movies of the Happy Tree Friends, action figures, t-shirts, even lip gloss! Go check them out. There is nothing quite like watching a squirrel dangle from a tree by her eyeball.

Missing again?
I've let the blog thing go again. Sure, it hasn't been that long, but still...I dislike not blogging.
But I'm here.
And my excuse? A new baby at my house! That's right, I have a new foster sister, making it seven of us kids.
And I thought that working at home was challenging before!

The re-birth of the musical?
I grew up watching old movie musicals. I loved Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and Cyd Charisse. So much so, that I dressed as Cyd Charisse once for Halloween. Of course, no one knew who I was trying to be. But back to the muscials.
People always poke fun at how things suddenly stop as everyone breaks into song. How is it that everyone knows what to sing and what the dance steps are going to be? But to me, that wasn't important. There is still something so fantastic about this type of movie. The sets and costumes are beautiful, and everything is so big. So, wow. Movies like Moulin Rouge and the new Chicago have done a nice job with this too, but I still like the look of the orginals.
But now, imagine if your life was like a movie musical, and you started singing at random. If you can't do that, imagine that you're somewhere, say, at the library, and someone else starts singing at random. It sounds crazy, but a theater group decided to make it happen. It's called the Library Musical. (via Robot Johnny) It makes me want to actually try doing this.
Well, maybe not.

Airline food?
The last time I had airline food, it was a wrapped sandwich, in a bad with a few other items. The time before that it was real food (well, you know)...but I was just two years old. So I don't have a lot of experience with airline food. However, I've enjoyed seeing what this guy has been eating on airplanes. I especially like the Asian food on the trips to Asia. Very original. Gmail invites?
I still have 5 Gmail invitations to share. Interested? Leave a comment and let me know!
Work on Amazon?
For so many, it's probably not a big deal. But for me, it is. Two books that I did design work for are now available for purchase on Amazon! This is a big day!
The first is Cookinary Arts, for which I did the cover. The second is Questions for Catholics, for which I designed the entire book and cover. I like the way the inside of the book looks more than the cover...I was hoping for an interesting texture, but this is what was chosen. It was also an interesting book to work on, as I'm not Catholic.
So now that I have these items that I've worked on out there and for sale, I think this means that I'm a real designer. I think. At the very least, I'm getting close! Now I just need to get a portfolio site up. The domain name has been purchased, ideas are being generated, I'm on my way!

Another year, another calendar?
While I can see the need to have a new calendar on January 1st, I could never understand why people would pay full for something that would be half price just days later. And then 75% off shortly after that! Now that we are into January, this is the perfect time to buy that perfect, previously expensive, calendar. In years past my house has gotten Hello Kitty, Dick and Jane, and Bon Bon to name a few.
This year I may not even bother with that though. The fabulous folks at FontShop offer, as a free gift, The 2005 FontFont Calendar. You just download the pages, and print them out. You're all set for a year of beautiful imagery and most importantly, FONTS!

Tired?
Now that the holidays are over and the new year has begun, it has hit. I'm tired, depressed, and entirely listless. It's so bad, that I'm forcing myself to blog. I know that this will make it all better. Or something like it.
One source of joy is finding gems like Toothpaste for Dinner, a collection of drawings with fantastic captions. You can even get some of them on shirts, bags, etc. Being a hamster fan, I enjoyed "HAMSTER you chewed up the pieces of wood i gave you, ate all the sunflower seeds i set out, and crapped all over the nice soft litter i put in your cage! THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE" So true, so true. (via Preshrunk.)

No more 2004?
Happy New Year! Wow. Another year has gone by. Allow me a moment to reflect.
During 2004 I finished school (at least for now), started working full time as a designer, started blogging, turned 25 (yikes!), had plenty of fun, and through it all have made some wonderful new friends, and had time to share with some wonderful old friends.
And now, as a gift to those who made it through my reflections...
In honor of 2005, I'm offering up 5 Gmail invitations! Just leave me a comment (make sure you fill in your name and email) and I'll send you an invite.
Have a blessed 2005!
