when you sit down to write and have no words

Happy Paint Plate

I was going to write about a post about an Instagram project I've been working on. Or perhaps about feeling less pressure to create a steady stream of blog posts. And instead I sat down and the words just didn't feel right.

Sometimes that's how it is. And while it would be easy to just walk away and say nothing until the right words come, it can't always be that way. Maybe because there's a deadline that must be met or maybe because you just want to say something.

So here I am, not saying too much.

But I'm sharing a paper plate with a face that just happened to show up as I was painting a few weeks ago. It's nice when you look down and an object is smiling at you.

Kind of like looking up and seeing a friendly face smiling at you. So maybe I was just supposed to sit down and write this and send you a smile on this day. Because I promise...from behind this screen, I'm smiling at you.

    Mollie,

I'm glad that you do write and understand when you can't or don't.
I just like reading about you and yours what you do. Thank you for your blog.

  2. I like your paper plate face! I also like that you post pretty frequently. My favorite media is blogs, but not every one that I read posts very much. I know it's probably a lot of work for you, but I'm happy that you post often. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. I this this is a sweet post. I always smile back to you when I see your beautiful photos here and on Instagram. I totally understand what you mean about the words just not feeling right too. I often get like that when writing some of my replies to pen friends. Sometimes I have an idea of what I want to write but then my mind and pen will go in another direction. Sometimes you just have to let that happen. W

    Hey, Mollie,
Thanks for the smile; I needed it. I'm pretty sick and I just wanted to let you know that your smile cheered me up a little when I saw it. *smiles back at Mollie from the other side of the screen*

  7. Mollie,
I teach English composition at a university and one of the main ideas I try to impress upon my students is that even awesome writers sometimes experience moments when writing is hard and/or impossible. Wise writers have learned to recognize that feeling and have strategies for working past it in a crunch. Thanks for capturing this feeling so eloquently. I love it when I check my email and find you have posted.
