book review: blogging for creatives

Blogging for Creatives

From time to time, I've posted tips on taking blogs from good to great, although it's been a while. Those tips may show up again in the near future...but for now, let me tell you about a book that is all you'll really need.

Blogging for Creatives covers just about every topic you might need to know as a blogger, and it does so in a very visual way. There are tons of screen captures, both from blogging resources and actual blogs. (Shown on my blog is the British cover...Amazon has the American version.)

Whether you're just getting started, or looking to make a change or improvement, there are basics like choosing where to blog, and how to set up your template.

There are also more advanced things, like mobile blogging, creating podcasts, and adding sponsorship.

I should also say, I got to contribute a tip! Fun!

There's so much information in here, but it's in bite-sized chapters and sections. I've only skimmed it so far, because I know that once I start really getting into this, I'll be ready to try things out and make some adjustments to my own blog.

I do want to note that with a book like this, with lots of technology references, there are some things that won't always be up-to-date. But there's also lots of things that will remain true always. Any way you look at it, at around $13 on Amazon (at the time I'm writing this), you'll get your money's worth!

  2. it's so special that you're included in the book! congrats!!

i'm always very attracted to books like this, and if i come across it in my local chapters store, there's a good chance that i'll buy it! but i wish i could find one that didn't start from the Very Beginning. i'm definitely past choosing a platform and customizing it so i'd have to skip that whole section and then maybe feel like i wasn't getting my moneys worth. i think it will still be a little while before they have a book for everyday bloggers who want to improve even more and gain new inspiration. i guess that's what e-courses are for!

i know what you mean about tech books though. i once almost bought a book that was a collective overview of some popular craft/diy bloggers. but while in the store i googled some of them and it turned out that 5o percent of them no longer had a blog, or had changed the domain, or topic completely. it's too bad for that publisher!

p.s. my favourite starter blog/online shop book is BY FAR craft superstar!
    sorry this was so long!

  6. it's about time someone wrote a book like this! i really started to blog at the beginning of this year, and except for a couple of dry and technically scary books out there, there is really not as much written on the subject of blogging as one would think, considering how popular it's become. i've pretty much been on my own with figuring out how to do things to set up my blog and make it more "me"...i've found a few helpful resources...dawn by design is pretty awesome...but it really has been difficult to learn and get how-to advice for someone that is not technically savvy at all. thank goodness is what i say! and congrats for your part in it! i will be purchasing this book for sure!
    have a good one!
