vintage craft: bias trim

Bias Trim

I felt as though I had already shared this vintage craft find with you already, but I found no photos or posting of it, so I guess I've just looked at it too many times! I found this in with some other vintage supplies and fell in love. It came to me still wrapped in cellophane, but I had to open it to play with it.

The "lacy edge" is a teeny tiny chain stitch, and is oh so delicate and lovely. I'm looking for the perfect project to use it for. It must be special, and just right. Oh, and if the trim itself wasn't enough, the packaging is equally wonderful.

Don't you just love that you could send in for scrap pieces for your child to make doll clothes? So very charming.

Even though I'm not quite ready to sew something with this, and I'm certainly not going to mail it to any of you...it's mine! MINE! (sorry...I got all trim power hungry for a moment...) Where was I? Oh, yes...I want to virtually share this pretty bias trim with you.

The strips you see above, and in the first image (running along the left of the photo) were made with a scanned image of the trim. I've made it into a PNG file, which has a transparent background so you can lay the trim over any image. Use it on your blog, your scrapbooking...anything! It's a fairly big image too, for more flexibility. Have fun, and I'd love to see this vintage craft in action!

I found a bag of 30+ vintage trims at my second hand store for $1 and I have been hoarding it - I never thought to scan it :-)

  2. Awwww... For a minute there I thought you were going to share a tutorial on MAKING this trim ourselves. Living in the tropics, I carry hankies, and I have some new lovelies that would be lovelier and more feminine with this touch of lacy edge.

But that's very cute what you did!

  3. Oh, I'm sorry it wasn't what you were expecting! I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to make a teeny chain stitch, and tack it onto regular bias tape. I might have to try that!

  6. Thanks! I added it just below my header on my blog. (craftykricket.blogspot.com) I saw it and thought, "Hey that matches my blog background. I bet I could use that!" Not sure if I'll keep it there or fiddle around with it some more but it looks cute. Thanks for sharing!
