thread heaven...

YIP2010 - 236

Ever since I saw Jenny Hart show how to use Thread Heaven, I've wanted to try it. Today, I did. I think I like it. I say "I think" because, I'm not entirely sure yet if I see the difference.

Have you used this "amazing" product? Do you like it? Can you tell me exactly what I should be looking for?

Even if I never figure out or see all of the benefits, can I share something with you? I rather like using Thread Heaven, if only because it makes me feel all official. Like a real embroiderer. Silly? Probably...

I haven't found it very useful with cotton thread, but I love it on metallic and silk thread, both of which tend to fray increasingly as you pull it through the fabric.

  2. I think it helps with the longer lengths. I cut my floss into 40-inch lengths, and T.H. seems to help with the knotting and tangling that I would otherwise encounter.

I just got some myself and I have to say that I have not have the knottage that I usually do. I cut my floss really long and I usually get some knots going when I go faster and this has helped with that.

I use it a lot, it seems to help keep my thread from knotting, but I find it probably isn't good to use on light colored threads, at least for me, because I found it seemed to attract any little bit of dirt I may have had on my hands and discolored my thread. I now only use it on darker threads.

  6. It works well on metallics, I have not found it useful on cotton ... but I use shorter lengths of floss ... the bad thing about TH I have found is that after a while the consistency changes to where when I try using it on floss it does not really smooth out, but just leaves little crumbs of wax on my floss ... I guess it sorta dries out? So, I just gave up on it ...

  7. I feel that way when I use embroidery scissors instead of whatever huge pair I happen to have around...

  8. I hand quilt with one strand of cotton thread and haven't found it very helpful. I still get frayed, knotted and broken thread, but, like you...I feel all official and professional like, so I keep trying it anyway.

  10. I have used it for years on my long lengths of cotton thread for sewing binding on quilts. Another time I love it is to tame the end of the thread that one threads the needle with. After sewing, that end tends to misbehave. I put a little wax between my fingers and tame that end. Works great!

  11. I use long strands so maybe that's why I see a huge difference! No more knots ( or at least a lot less) and way easier to separate. It feels like it runs smoother.

I use it on thread for beading but not embroidering...I'll have to try it though!

  13. I love thread heaven for hand sewing the binding onto quilts...I just started using it this afternoon with some metallic threads on a cross stitch and it really made it easy! I'm that girl who always uses the longest piece of thread to do the tiniest bit of work and then is baffled when it tangles ;) plus I love the glitter in it.
