it's your turn...

questions

A few posts down, I gave you an opportunity to ask me some questions. I'm working on answering those, and you can still ask more, if you'd like.

But today I have some questions for you! You can answer them here in a comment, or you could answer them on your own blog and then leave a link to your post in the comments. Answer one, answer them all...it's up to you, but I do want to hear from you!

On Making:

What do you enjoy making the most, and why?

How did you learn the skills needed for making this?

In what ways do you use your making?

On Favorites:

What is your favorite handmade thing that you own, or have owned, and why?

What was your favorite story growing up, and why?

On Stories:

What story (true or fiction) have you heard that has impacted your life the most?

When you look at your life, what kind of story is it? What kind do you want it to be?

What are you doing to make your story the best it can be?

And the big question...

What's your story?

  1. oh, my! you are full of thought-provoking questions tonight! so many to ponder! i could spend the next week working on answering these questions. i'm going to answer the question about the stories that impact my life the most. i'm the kind of girl that always roots for the underdog. my favorite book of all time is called THE POWER OF ONE. i read it every summer. my favorite movies are ones like ROCKY. beating the odds. making yourself something so much greater than where you came from. these kids of stories are great motivators for me.

  2. i love to draw. i suppose i started drawing and doodling at a small age, and i just got better and better. i like to draw people and i use this skill kinda for myself. my story is pretty long but to shorten it: i'm just entering a world that i don't know very, and i don't want to grow up.

  3. Oooh great questions! I can't resist joining in :)

    On making:

I love making anything that communicates a feeling, especially that people can bring their uniqure perceptions to that enhance it and make it something different to every person who sees it. That's really the aim of the most meaningful of my work: to communicate my message and learn from others what communicates to them.

I learned the skills at art college, through observation of others' work and through practice practice practice.

I like to make anything and everything, but ways to communicate with lots of people are my favourites which means publishing, or self-publishing: through my blog, my books and my zines.

    On favourites:

Wowsa. I think my favourite handmade thing would have to be the camp blanket my grandma made for me when I was very little. My aunt used to be an air hostess and would collect me a sew-on patch from every country she visited. My Grandma would then sew them all onton this big blanket which had a hole for my head so I could wear it. Eventually I had so many badges it was too heavy to wear, but I still treasure it to this day.

My favourite story was undoubtedly The Velveteen Rabbit.

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

    On stories:

Choosing one that's impacted my life the most is hard because there truly are SO many. In fact I'm going to cop out and not choose one. I'm inspired by anyone who has a story of finding a way to be true to their dreams.

My story is just that kind of story and I'm very happy to see it unfolding that way :)

I'm definitely not going to write it here though! You can read a bit of it on my blog here (http://greenbeanstudio.blogspot.com/p/how-i-got-here.html) but for the full version you'll just have to wait for my graphic novel. Sorry about that...
