calendar: lily of the valley for may

May Calendar

Hello, May 1st! I'm a little startled to see you so soon. Had I known you would turn up now, I would have prepared a little more...

I suppose there's no excuse for my being surprised to see May 1st come right after April 30th. But then, I kept thinking it was earlier in April. Like, you know...the first week? Anyway, let's move on.

Lily of the Valley is a May flower (not the kind to bring pilgrims), and my grandma's birthday was in May. She loved these tiny blooms, and I am inclined to agree. We have some that grow near our driveway, so whenever possible, we grab a few stems to bring inside to enjoy. They smell so sweet! (Of course, now that I've learned how poisonous they are, we'll be a bit more cautious, lest the cat get into them!)

Adorn your desktop or digital device with some flowers, and prepare for a few more lily of the valley items throughout the month. (Wait till you see the embroidery pattern...it's vintage cute!)

  1. The other day I thought "Oh, it's almost Valentines Day" but then I realised it's already 2 months later :D I love this background, it's so bright, but still soft and comforting. My birthday is this month.

Wonderful! I love lily of the valley. It's my birth flower, but I like it for many reasons: it's delicate-looking yet tough and hardy, it smells wonderful, and the greens look nice all summer. It grows well in shade, where most other flowers won't. The flowers look like little bells or old-fashioned bonnets. What a great flower.

I don't think there could be too many embroidery patterns for lily of the valley. I cross-stitched some on black fabric - it's one of my favorite pieces.
