my papa's paints
My Papa, who is now 96, used to make all kinds of wood carvings, in addition to the many other things he made from wood. Someday I'll take some photos to share, but today I want to show you what I found.
Last fall my Papa moved from his house and is now in a care facility with an amazing staff who have created a family and home environment. (We are so thankful!) It has come time to sell his house, so there has been a lot to go through. The other day I opened a cabinet in his workshop and found something that I will always cherish.
Inside the cabinet were bottles and tubes of paint, a jar of brushes, and a board with paint samples and names. Each color that he had and used is on here, and I recognize many of the shades from his carvings.
It's a clever and practical way to see the colors and how they look dry, but more than that, it's a glimpse at my Papa's process. The brushes now reside on my shelf and I plan to hang the swatches on my wall.

This is such a sweet treasure. The fact that he wrote down the colors adds that personal touch. It's fun that you remember the colors from his carvings. I am happy to hear that he has a nice place to spend this time of his life. He is blessed...... especially to have you! ♥
ReplyDeleteNice keepsake, if anyone notice the last photo at the white colors that called "Santa Flesh" that killing me from laughing!!!(if you know what it is mean).
ReplyDeleteHa! He used to carve Santa figures, so I assume that's what this is about. Another one of those reference notes. Did you also see hooker green? That's the actual paint name!
DeleteWhat an absolutely amazing gift that would mean so much today. Honestly brought a tear to my eye. :')
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a wonderful shadow box the paint, the brushes, the color card, the tube of paint. All kept together with a photo of him.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic! What a special piece of art for your studio!
