snapshot saturday: losing a friend
When I was a baby, my parents planted a tree for me. Over the years it grew to be much larger than our house. But for a while now, we've known that it was being infected by Emerald Ash Borers.
Last week, it was decided that it should come down. It wasn't dead, but it was on its way. So we took a few last photos. And I cried.
Now it's just a tall stump, which will get a tree house built on it. And a new tree is planted nearby.

Sad. Endings and beginnings....
ReplyDeleteawww. we did that for my baby sister. It was a memorable beginning. Now it gives cherries every year, much to the delight of the birds and racoons!
ReplyDeleteoh, sorry for your tree :( glad you have a new tree planted - and a tree house sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteHow sad! But good to plant a new tree and to use the stump as base for a tree house!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your tree. But, I bet the tree house will be fun!
ReplyDeleteAh, seeing the photos made it all real for me and I'm a bit emotional too. I didn't realise it was so big and beautiful. So sad, but I'm sure it will be an awesome treehouse. Big hug.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite large! (It's just because I'm old...)
Deletewhat a beautiful story.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about your tree. That's neat that you are going to build a treehouse on it. Did you save a little piece of the tree to make a craft with?
ReplyDeleteI kept three fairly large logs/branches with a plan in mind for making some smaller things. There's also a chunk of bark sitting on my desk right now...
DeleteWe built a tree house on ours too. It made me feel better about having to cut it down.

Maybe you can save a log or two, dry, take bark off and use as special end tables, too. Love the tree house idea.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the tree, but glad a new one was planted! Did you get to take any pieces with you? Hope so!! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI did keep some pieces, and have crafty plans for them! I'll most certainly be sharing them here when I get to the making.
Deletebeautiful story, i hope there are other photos of you, younger, with your tree. i think it's very special that you got to save some pieces from your tree, and that the tree stump is going to support a tree house.
ReplyDeleteWe planted redwoods when family members were "called" because they live longer than dirt.
