project: starry candle wrap

Starry Candle Wrap

My family has come to love battery-operated flameless candles. They aren't too expensive, they look pretty, "burn" clean, and you don't have to worry about forgetting to blow them out.

They are also good for projects like this one, which use paper! This is a simple wrap, which glows with a starry sky when you flip the switch on your flameless candle! Make little ones for battery tea lights, or larger ones that fit around a battery pillar candle! (Also, kids love making these!)

Here's what you need:
Dark blue or black paper
Several layers of felt or a piece of foam
A push pin or thumbtack
Tape or glue
Battery-operated candle

Cut a rectangle of paper to the size you want it. It should fit around the candle with some overlap, and be slightly taller than the candle.

Place the paper on the felt or foam, and gentle poke holes in the paper. You can make different designs, real constellations, or just a bunch of random "stars". Holding the paper down with one hand, while punching with the other, helps prevent crinkles in the paper.

Roll the paper into a tube, and tape or glue it to secure.

Place your candle inside and watch it glow! The photo of it glowing is a pillar candle, which is usually brighter. But little tea lights are really fun too...especially if you make a bunch of them!

  1. I love the idea of doing constellations. It would be a great gift for an astronomer!
