printable: countdown to easter cards

Countdown Cards

Easter time is a good time to make some positive changes in your life...especially when those changes can make a difference in others' lives.

To that end, my family put together some activities to do in the days leading to Easter. They don't need to happen in any particular order, and most of them are quick and easy to do. Some take a little extra effort, but all of them are things that you can do with everyone in your family. If you are a single person, or just a couple...most will still work for you!

We've put the activities on cards, punched a hole in the corner, and hung them on a ring. That way it's easy to flip through and find something that you can do each day. Oh, and did I mention that they are in a printable file for you?

Many of the activities are faith-based, but the first page are all activities that could be defined as random acts of kindness.

We packaged them up in little paper baskets with some jelly beans, and gave them to people at our church. For you, they are packaged in this PDF file:

There are trim marks along the edges if you're cutting on a paper cutter, but they should print just perfectly on perforated business card stock.

However you choose to celebrate Easter and spring, I hope you enjoy bringing some joy and hope to others this season!

  1. This is a fabulous idea! Thanks so much for the printable too. I think I am going to make one of these for my friend who was my RCIA sponsor 7 years ago. I am sitting in the church these days and really getting very excited for those going through that process. It is such a big culmination, Easter is, for these soon-to-be neophytes! My sponsor was so very helpful to me in my journey to confirmation and we still keep in touch today.

I am inspired by the way you let your spiritual side shine through on this blog. Thank you! Blessings-Abbie

  4. Thank you, Mollie! I just printed these up to take to my grandchildren this week-end. What a wonderful way to help us focus on something other than the Easter bunny. I look forward to doing some of these activities with my family.

I commend your idea. It is wonderful to do nice things for those around us. However, why do those times often seem to appear only during "religious" holidays? I'm an atheist and I do nice things for my neighbors all the time. I bake cookies, watch their dogs, give extra bounty from the garden and wish them well often. It might happen on the 27th of July or on Easter. I guess I don't understand why it seems like Christians often need to be told to be "nice people" and I just want to be nice because it's human nature to be nice. Maybe you should just market these to people and leave Jesus out of it. Wouldn't the world be better if people were just nice without worrying about their religion?

    1. Marzia, I agree. There is no reason for things like this to only be considered around holidays, religious or otherwise. And I wouldn't want anyone to think that these ideas are meant only for Easter time. Only a few of the activities in these cards are Easter specific, because the hope is that they will be used over and over, encouraging people to show love and kindness all year.

I think it's unfortunate that any of us need reminders to show love and kindness, no matter the time of year, but as humans we all have faults, we all forget to do the right thing sometimes and need to get back on track. Whether it be Easter, New Year's, or July 27th, my hope and prayer is that we can all reach out to others in love...because we all need that.

Is it only a few or many? You can't have both.

I agree that we all forget to do the right thing. However, I get myself back on track. I do not need Jesus, the Bible, corn, goldfish, rainbows, embroidery with faces or God to remind me to get back on track. For example, I visit your blog regularly. I have for about a year...despite your religious beliefs which contrast with my own. I think you are a good person and I want to support you when you ask for sponsors by lending to your internet traffic. I don't do that for any other reason other than the fact that you seem to be a good person with great ideas. It doesn't require an Easter related flash card or the Bible to prompt me to do that. And, you might note that even though I think the Bible and God are crap, I still capitalize them out of respect. I only wish that Christians and others could respect my beliefs and just be nice people with some regularity.

    1. Before I say anything else, thank you. Thank you for visiting my blog, for thinking that I have good ideas to share (that really means a lot to me!) supporting me and my sponsors, and being respectful. Even though I know that my views are different from many people, I hope that it's clear that I also respect people who's beliefs differ from my own.

I think it's great that you are able to get yourself back on track. For myself, I need a motivation outside of me, otherwise, I'm not sure how long I could keep any of it up. But I recognize that not everyone thinks and feels that way.

To answer your question, one page of activities is not faith-based, two pages are faith-based (many relate to prayer), but only a few are specific to the Easter holiday.

  15. Thank you for giving of your time and yourself to share this idea. I took it and revised it some to create a card set to give our congregation's families on Easter. I agree with your comment several posts back that we all forget to do the right and generous thing and need reminders throughout the year. Happy Easter!

  16. What a great idea and thank you! I'm a MOPS mentor mom and I'm going to pass on this link. This is a great idea for Lent, and also for the rest of the year, a wonderful way to model for our children what we say we believe.
