make: a fabric-covered button ring

Liberty
Liberty Fabric

If I had a million dollars, a good chunk of it would have been spent at the Liberty fabric department. I had hoped to buy small cuts of several fabrics, but was so sad that the minimum cut was half a meter. How could I choose? In the end, I couldn't justify the cost without a particular project in mind. Instead, I found some fabric-covered buttons, and instantly ideas came to me!

Button Ring

Not wanting to let my Liberty buttons sit for too long, yesterday I made my first project: a button ring! I've also been admiring some rings with elastic bands lately, so I brought that into this project as well. It's so easy, it doesn't even deserve to be called a tutorial, but I do hope that it inspires you to try making something similar for yourself!

Button Back

Here's my pretty button, and you can see the type of back on it. This one is plastic, but you can buy or make fabric-covered buttons with similar backs in metal too.

Elastic

I also used skinny elastic.

As the eye on the back of the button was large enough, I decided to thread the elastic through two times. It felt more secure this way too. I measured it around my finger, then overlapped the elastic and sewed it together.

So easy to make, and now I can wear my Liberty button any time I want (and feel fancy without having spent a fortune)!

Now...there are three buttons left...what will I make with them? You'll have to wait and see!
