This summer, I'm teaching another online embroider class! Last year, I taught a class on embroidering on and with unusual materials and was so amazed and pleased with the response. This time around, the 5-week online course will cover the things you can do to make your embroidery special.

Here's a brief overview of The Embroidery Project: All in the Details.

Basic embroidery, done well, can be beautiful on its own, but there are some simple details that can make it really stand out. This class will teach techniques for using different supplies (traditional and non-traditional), as well as some more advanced stitches and how to make your finished piece shine. We'll use these techniques as we create 15 projects.

These projects are easy enough for beginners, and suitable for crafters of all ages. However, the class will not teach basic embroidery skills. You don't need to be an expert embroiderer, but you should already know some basic stitches.

The supplies that are required are primarily basic craft materials. You probably have quite a few of the items on hand, and the rest are low-cost.

All in the Details will be hosted on a private blog. Time zones are not an issue, so anyone, worldwide, can participate.

The cost of the class is $35, which works out to just over $2 per project, not even counting the techniques, embroidery patterns (yes, there will be a bunch!), and perhaps a bonus or two.

Class begins Monday, June 20. You can work at your own pace. And because five weeks isn't very long to get all of these projects finished (life is busy...and embroidery takes a bit of time), the class blog will still be available after the class is finished.

And something else that will make you happy! (I know I was extremely excited...) I am so thankful to have the support on DMC and their blog, DMC Threads for this class. They are providing supplies for me, and for some of you! Everyone signing up during the first week of registration will receive a sample pack with some specialty floss. Each pack will have a value of around $5.

Registration will start on Wednesday, June 1 at NOON CST and continue through the class. You'll find the registration here on the blog, and in my Etsy shop. Once you register and pay, you'll receive an email within 48 hours that contains the private blog link and password. You'll be able to sign in, introduce yourself, see the supply lists, and download some exclusive embroidery patterns.

It's going to be so much fun, and I hope you join!

  18. I'm so happy that you are as excited as I am about this! It's gonna but funnnn!!!!

Rosa: I try to keep the supplies fairly basic, so here's a quick (but not complete) summary: fabric (canvas, quilting cotton, etc.), felt, craft glue, straw wreath form, photo/scrapbook album, glass jar, small beads, fusible web, elastic, an old shirt, wide ribbon/belting, wood embroidery hoops, plus, of course, embroidery floss.

And if there is something that you don't have easy access to, I love coming up with ideas for alternative supplies.
