illustrative conversation...

I gotta tell you, for all of the doodles and drawings and fun things that I make, I still have to work at calling myself an artist. But that's still easier than being considered an illustrator. Why? Because it rarely comes easily.

So you can imagine my delight and my apprehension when Katie Green asked me to collaborate with her on an issue of The Green Bean. I mean, the idea was exciting, but what if it's really hard and Katie (and all of her readers!) see that I can't really draw at all?

Well I was right. And wrong. The way that Katie collaborates with illustrators is to have an illustrated conversation, where you draw and write things back and forth. And it was hard. Katie asked some really amazing questions that caused me to do some serious thinking. Which meant drawing things to accompany my answers. But I never felt that my little doodles were not good enough.

Katie helped me to stretch a bit, and that is always a good thing. So thank you, Katie, for inviting me, and working with me, and getting me thinking and drawing!

And guess what? Katie has a special on this year's complete volume of issues right now, so be sure to read all about it!
