write them on your doorframes...
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (emphasis mine)
I took this quite literally recently, and painted the first part of this on the doorframe of my office. You'll notice that there is no trim there, which is very common in my house. There's something about that last little bit of finishing. The exposed frame seemed a perfect place to add a reminder of this oh so important command for me to see everyday. It also is viewable from my bed, so when I lie down and when I get up I can see these words. (And when trim goes up, it will still be there...so at least I'll know)
The entire script on my doorway is the Jewish shema, with the addition of Jesus' command: "The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself."

What a great reminder! So cute, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea - and what a message it sends to others and ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThat reminded me of when my parents were building their house 15 years ago, we all chose our favorite bible verses and wrote them on the floors & framing in our rooms, and my mom wrote some into the foundation of our house after the concrete had been poured.
ReplyDeleteI love how you're incorporating the Word into your home and into you blog!
