make: fabric flag rings

Do you have lots of fabric scraps? If you work with fabric at all, I'll bet you have at least a few. Today I have a little project that will have you putting some of those scraps to use! I've made two kinds of fabric flag rings: one is a key ring, and the other is a binder ring...both are easy and fun to make!



You will need:
Felt and/or fabric scraps
Fusible interfacing (I'm using medium weight Heat 'n' Bond)
Key ring and/or binder ring
Embroidery floss



Cut the felt or fabric into strips, then iron on the interfacing to the back of the fabric. (If you're working with regular fabric, you may want to only fuse the interfacing onto one half.)



Peel off the paper backing, make sure the strips are trimmed to the final width you want them (mine are about 1/2" wide), then loop them through a ring and fold. Iron the folded strips to fuse them together.




Trim the ends to have a little point, and add some stitches if you want.

The wool blend felt that I'm working with here fused so well, I know it's not going anywhere. Felt can take a beating as a keychain, but I have a good feeling about this one lasting a good while.

The cotton pieces that I worked with didn't want to as well as they usually do for me. I think it's because I was putting interfacing up against interfacing, but I'm not certain. Either way, my decorative stitches hold it together. This binder ring version is going to be used to hold some printables, which I'll share here tomorrow!
