my new mug (also, more love of arrows)
A while ago (like months and months!) I picked up a Sharpie Paint Marker planning to make something fun. It has sat here unopened until this week. Can I tell you just how happy I was to find it and a plain mug both sitting on my desk? It's like it was meant to be!
After a quick Google search to make sure I would get this right, and be able to wash the mug in the dishwasher, I found this post. Basically, you draw your design, place the mug in the oven, turn it on to 350F (so the mug warms with the oven). When the oven reaches 350F, set the timer for 30 minutes, then turn it off and allow the mug to cool in the oven.
I forgot it was in there cooling, so in the morning I went for my coffee, and for the first time, pulled a mug from the oven instead of the cabinet! Here's how it looked after my first cup of coffee:
How much do I love my very simple arrow-doodled mug? Very much.
UPDATE: After 3 runs in the dishwasher, some scratches are showing up...it sort of adds to the charm, but I'm prepared to redraw when necessary.

ReplyDeleteThis is great! I have seen lots of Sharpie mugs floating around pinterest, but I love the simplicity of your little arrows.
ReplyDeleteso cute!!!
ReplyDeleteHi, i have a question,
ReplyDeleteit´s a special Sharpie or the usual ones?
This is a special, oil-based sharpie. I think the regular ones work, but they aren't dishwasher safe, only hand wash.
DeleteOh I love your design! So simple and darling! Thanks for linking to my tutorial, I really appreciate it!
ReplyDeletemust find sharpie paint marker and white mugs now. do the paint sharpies come in other colors besides black? these would make fun fun, personal gifts!
ReplyDeleteYes! They come in "fashion colors" as they say, plus primary colors and metallics.
Deletehurray, thanks for letting me know. i'll have to start looking for some......
DeleteYour mug is so cute! I did a review of my experience with this DIY trend also, but thank you for educating me about the Sharpie Paint pens!

where I can buy these markers.
ReplyDeleteI bought mine at Office Max, so similar stores should have them, as well as craft supply stores, or Amazon.
ReplyDeleteThis is super cute, Mollie!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely giving this a try one of these days :)

i just read that using oil paint sharpies makes it last much longer
ReplyDeletewill it work with a normal sharpie pen?
ReplyDeletebecause i just bought a 20 pack of normal sharpie colors
I think I've heard of other tutorials that use regular Sharpies, but I'd be hesitant to trust them. This Sharpie was made for using on porcelain, and it still scratched over time.
