My guess is that it would depend on the design you want to add. With the chunky knit, a simpler design is probably best. In the past I used DMC Floss (which is now vintage floss). I gave my floss a bath in a solution of vinegar (white) and cold water. Let the floss soak and then rinse in cold water until clear, air dry floss. I used this for shades of Red, Purple, Black, and certain Orange shades I thought may run. The soaking process does shrink the wool some, unless you use cool water. And that takes forever.<br /><br />It's best to pre-shrink the wool, but I'm not sure how that would work for the wool thread. It's a slower process, but for me, I find it much more cleaner and easier to transfer any image with much more detail. <br /><br />I have a detailed tutorial about it in my blog at CapriciousArts.com :)<br /><br />I also don't mind the transferring part.
