sponsor giveaway: green resources from anita

Anita from Sew, Vintage, So Fun! has a "Green" themed giveaway, in honor of the recent Earth Day holiday. (Taking care of the earth is a good time any time, right?)
AnitaGiveaway
The winner will receive two great books by Sophie Uliano packed in a reusable, fold-able green tote bag. The first book is "Gorgeously Green, 8 Simple Steps to an Earth Friendly Life". This book is an informative and enjoyable resource. The second book is "The Gorgeously Green Diet". Despite the word "diet" in the title, this book is much more about eating healthy and fresh than it is about weight loss.

Both of these books are fabulous resources that Anita refers to often, and she is sure that you would benefit from them as well!

To enter, leave a comment with your favorite thing that is green (an eco-tip, or even something that is the color green!), along with a way for us to contact you. And then, be sure to visit Anita to thank her for sharing these fun goodies!

  3. I'm afraid my favorite green tip is the same as Becca's in comment #1. Walking (or riding your bike) is great. Even if you live somewhere where driving is essential (like California), walking to places you normally go, or change it up and go to someplace you CAN walk to instead, is a great way to cut down your car pollution. Not to mention it's great for your health too!

  4. In the same line, GARDENING! Growing your own food in your own backyard! Great for your physical health, your eating health, and mental. A great teaching tool for your kids too.

  6. Here is my favorite green tip: Recycle yarn. I buy a nice big sweater at the thrift store and wash it. Then I unravel it and use the yarn in another project.

There is a great tutorial on recycling yarn at http://www.craftstylish.com/item/9839/how-to-recycle-yarn-from-a-thrift-store-sweater

  7. Green has always been my favorite color, even when everyone else loved blue or purple or pink best. Green is life and growing to me. I am attempting to eat healthier and would love the Green "diet" Book...
My green tip is Farmer's Market if you can't grow your own garden...yum.

  8. I like reusing dryer sheets to dust, and use them in my husband shoes.

  9. My 'green' tip: take your own basket to the farmers market or at least bring your own reusable totes to your grocery shop. This is so common in Germany because we have to pay for each plastic bag we use at the grocery stores. As for my favorite green thing: my husbands eyes (oh that's cheesy...)

  10. I lovelovelove buying used and repurposing items to fit my needs instead of buying new. My favorite so far is a large, dated painting my mother and I bought from a resale shop that we're covering with fabric and turning into a bulletin board/door for a crawlspace in the craft room we're remodeling.

  11. My favorite Green thing is getting a crop share over the summer where the local farmer gives me some produce for a fee in the beginning of the year. Yum! Annd my favorite color is green so my new chair is my second favorite green thing.

  12. My absolute favorite green thing is riding my bike. I live in Tacoma, WA - an area notorious for the amount of rain - but I still bike everywhere.

  13. My favorite green thing lately has been researching the ingredients in skincare/cosmetics and avoiding the baddies. As a result my skin has improved dramatically, I'm creating less packaging waste, and I'm helping the environment by boycotting ingredients whose farming is detrimental to the habitats where they're grown (like palm oil and its derivatives).

Green has been my favorite color since I was little, so most of the things I surround myself with are green!

Chemicals make me cringe. I do not like to buy from stores. But I DO like to buy produce organic & locally, or grow it myself!!

  17. :) I love to find creative ways to truly reuse junk, like knitting from old tee-shirts or turning old clothes into toys or bags. I want to focus more on reducing, too, by making do with what I have and buying reusable items rather than disposable items (diapers, napkins, dishes, etc.).

I am a HUGE recycler ... so, I love being green by recycling as much as possible.

I try to recycle for crafts and what I can't use to craft with, I make sure gets into the blue bin!

    Thanks for the opportunity!

My favorite green thing is to take all my odd ends of embroidery floss and yarn, stuffing them in a tiny tulle bag (like teabag sized, i guess), and hanging it from my fire escape. All the birds come and take little bits for their nests!
