Do you yahoo?

This is one of those things that makes you ask, "Why haven't I heard of this before?" It seems that Yahoo! is a busy company, and they are always thinking of ways to make our lives easier. Mindset is a new way to search, based on your intent. For example, you're searching for "wild olive." If you are looking for something commercial to do with wild olives, such as a store with that name, or items with wild olives, you search that way. Or, if your search is for information on wild olives, such as how to grow them or their Christian significance, you search that way. And you do it all with a nifty slider, which allows you to see the results to change before your eyes. Searching will never be the same again. (via Metafilter.)

AHHHhhh?

I've let this go again! Grr. Okay well, I'll try to do better. I promise.

The Pacific spirit of cartoons?

On Tuesday my family all went to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. It's one of my favorite places in Chicago to visit. (Okay, so I actually like a whole lot of things in Chicago...this is a great place to live!) On our way in we saw a live size "The Suck-up" out on a sidewalk. It was a huge box with a real guy inside! Nearby were people who worked for Degree. Just another reason I love Chicago...

Anyway, at the Field Museum, I walked through thte Pacific Spirits section. It was being in a true "Tiki Room," even if it isn't the kitch tiki. I saw this one statue and had to sketch it. All I happened to have with was a notebook with lined paper, and I know now that I'll be bringing a real sketch book next time.

He actually looked this much like a cartoon. I love him! I think he'll be the inspiration for something fun. Not sure yet, but look at him! He's perfect!

An uphill battle?

I've tried. Really I have. But being consistently organized just isn't my thing. I bought a nice organizer, but it usually sits unused. Recently, I've started adding things to a composition book. You know, lists, notes, etc. It's going so-so. And in the event that it doesn't work (it's inevitable), I've found my next organizational tool. TiddlyWiki is, as Metafilter said, perfect for the obsessively organized. I'm not that, but the way that you add things to do is pretty darn fun. And that may be the incentive I need. Go try it. Play with it. Maybe we'll both get organized.

Guilty pleasure: Iron Chef?

As I write this, I'll admit it. I enjoy watching Iron Chef on Food Network. I'm amazed by how quickly the chefs are able to create dishes from what seem like obscure ingredients. And although I'm not a big seafood fan and most of the "theme ingredients" fall into that category, it's still intriguing to watch. We also enjoy the English voices for the Japanese judges. Tonight during dinner, my dad did commentary in the same voices and styles as you head on the show. He also points out that the one actress is on a lot...perhaps she needs more work and is only in it for the free food!

Sure it's a little cheesy, but this cooking competition can be really fun!

Spell Check?

Amazingly enough, I haven't visited the college I went to since my last day of school about this time last year. I didn't go to graduation, I haven't stopped to see friends still attending, and I didn't even pick up my degree. Mind you, it's only 20 minutes away, but it just didn't seem a priority. I've been busy!

So when I decided to go back and take some more classes, and perhaps continue my education, I thought I should at least get a copy of my degree. You know, that way it feels a little more official. So I get it, they put it in a nice folder, and I'm on my way. But on closer inspection, I notice something. My degree with a focus on desktop publishing has a typo. A TYPO! It reads "Desktop Pubilshing." PubILshing! What does it say about your college if they can't spell your degree correctly? How embarrassing.

Illustration Friday: Ambition?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It's been a few weeks since I did anything for Illustration Friday, so I thought it was about time that I got back to at least creating something. For this week's theme of "ambition," I went with The Tortoise and The Hare. That tortoise was pretty ambitious, yes?

And perhaps this was a little too ambitious for me. Using this technique didn't turn out exactly as I would have hoped. I didn't have time to give it extra attention, so it's sorta so-so. And sure, I could find some time and work on it more, but I'm thinking that I may use that time and try another technique. Something more like my peas or my flower. Yeah. That's my plan.
