Oscar predictions?

Another Oscar year is over, and, unlike other telecasts, this one didn't feel like it took a year to get through! I have to say, I liked the new format of presenting awards throughout the theater and how that seemed to move things along. However, I kind of missed seeing clips of the doumentaries and shorts.

As for predictions...I ended up with 16 correct. Not too bad. Better than I did last year, I think. Best Picture going to Million Dollar Baby threw me...I expected Aviator. How did you do? What surprised you?

Illustration Friday: Sorrow?

Okay, so I realize that this is a bit sick. Maybe really sick. But you have to admit, there is sorrow in this picture. When I first read that this week's theme was "Sorrow", I didn't think that I would come up with anything, so I didn't even try. But yesterday as I was doodling, this came to mind. So sad.

11 days?

Hmm. It's been 11 days since I last posted. It's funny, but it feels like 11 weeks. I'm not sure if that's because so much has happened, or if I've simply missed this. For some reason, writing something, sharing something, anything, makes me feel better.

And so, today, I document that I got to hold an Oscar statuette. A real one. Yep, this is as exciting as my life gets. But in all honesty, it was pretty cool. And I got to talk with the person that accompanied all of the Oscars out to Hollywood last week. Good times. And yes, Oscars really are as heavy as the stars report upon receiving one.

Year of the Rooster?

Well, this week's theme for Illustration Friday was "Year of the Rooster." I had a number of ideas and sketches, including a chick hatching from a fortune cookie, and the one that I was going to go for, a rooster eating from a Chinese take-out box. But it was never finished. I guess I could still finish it up, but I don't see myself needing an illustration like that in the near future.

What did come out of this was that I ended up drawing the rooster in a different style than I have drawn before. So I decided to try a few other farm animals, and they came out cute. I think that a series of watercolored animals will be coming up. They seem like a nice little gift for my baby sister too! More details on this to come!

Again?

I would just like to say that I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I no longer know what "normal" feels like.

Illustration Friday: Friendship?

Last year I did a little pencil drawing of my brother PJ, and I loved how it came out. Then a few months later, I made this turtle in Illustrator. I looked at the two, and thought that PJ and the turtle would made good friends, and that it would even be fun to make a comic strip of them.

It wasn't until I saw the Illustration Friday theme of Friendship that I decided to pull out these two characters and combine them. So I quickly drew PJ in Illustrator and added in the turtle. I pencil drawing is cuter, as this was done quickly. But I think that now that I have something to go from, I'll have to refine, rework, and make this into what it needs to be. Suggestions?

You Kandoo?

Every day, I am surrounded by kids and kid stuff. I realized today that I blog about kids quite a bit too. This is amusing to me, because I have no children, only brothers and sisters that I love so very much.

Occasionally, items for children are so cute, or so wacky that you just can't help but smile, laugh, or tell the world. Yesterday, a large envelope arrived at my house. It contained "a helping hand from Kandoo." If you haven't seen the commercials, Kandoo is a box of flushable wipes designed for children learning to use the potty. I was amused by the commercials, but the packet they sent out was great.

But it got better. Today I went to the website. Their mascot is an adorable frog who demonstrates the process of going potty. I know that it's a little Jr. High of me, but I couldn't help but watch the little animated frog as he wipes his little bottom with the Kandoo wipes. I'm sure you'll want to too. Just click on the wipes, then sit back and prepare to giggle like you're 12 again!
