calendar // a rosy ruby for july

Ready for another gemstone? July's birthstone is a ruby, and I chose a rose-cut style. I love that in a rosy ruby color it's a little like a round flower and a little like a shimmering firework. And with that rosy face, who could resist such a pretty gem?

It's a busy time over here again, so another short and sweet post. With more good things to come soon...I hope! But hey! At least July is here a little early!

Now, how about those calendars?

calendar // a pearlescent pearl for june

Well, hello, June! How it is we arrived at June already astounds me. The year is nearly halfway gone already! But I don't want to get ahead of myself too much.

June's birthstone isn't what we think of with birthstones too much, as it's pearl. And actually, to be fair, there are a few other birthstone options for June, but pearl is traditional. And I do love pearls. They're a classic. But they're also simple, which makes this month's calendar (and the pattern to come) also simple.

And you know what? I'm in need of simple. Currently I'm in the process of trying to work ahead so I don't fall behind when I take a summer vacation (which I'll share more about later...). Unfortunately it's not been going very well! So I'll keep this post simple and sweet so I can go back to work and you can download these calendars!

Add them to your desktop, phone or tablet. You could even print one to hang near your desk or pop it into your planner!

Also, I have a new privacy policy here on the blog. Just in case you were wondering...

calendar // an eager emerald wallpaper for may

Happy May! It's time for a new calendar wallpaper, this time with May's birthstone of an emerald!

The thing I love about this month is that it reminds me of Nanny, my grandma who passed away. Her birthday was in May, so when I see an emerald birthstone, she comes to mind. And isn't it nice that things like that keep special people close?

Plus, I do think that emeralds and emerald cut stones are pretty fantastic.

For this month, enjoy a wallpaper with an emerald-cut emerald! Download the size you want and add it to your desktop or lockscreen on your phone or tablet.

And just for a few fun peeks back at April...

Peapod Necklace

Keeping with the green theme, I made these peapod necklaces as a Mother's Day project for Handmade Charlotte. You can add one pea bead for each kid in the family!

Oh, and I got to design some Peter Rabbit I Spy game cards!

Mother's Day Locket Printable

Necklaces must have been on my brain because I also made a printable kid craft locket. It's a wearble card that you can fill with a photo or a hand-drawn self portrait.

Felt Tote Bag

Finally, among other things, I sewed up this felt tote bag for The Spruce Crafts. The bag itself was designed by Sherri Osborne, but then I updated it and added some extra felt decoration (Felt-Fetti from Benzie Felt!).

And now, it's time to get back to sewing, stitching, and oh so much crafting!

PS: Happy birthday to all the May birthday babies!

calendar // print & post & fiesta with el gato

Hey, May! We're glad you're here!

It's a new month, and that means a new calendar! It also means a new theme for some of my posts, and throughout May you'll be seeing plenty of kitties! Because Cinco de Mayo is coming right up, I couldn't help but put this Fiesta Gato on the calendar. Or maybe it's a Gato Fiesta? Pretty sure we'll have both going on here...

With little ones in mind, there's the printable version that they can trace, and of course, your choice of a few sizes for computers and other devices.

To use the iPhone and iPad versions, click the link for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

I've also made a coordinating (sort of?) wallpaper for the home screen of your tablet or phone. Instead of the fishy papel picado that you see behind Fiesta Gato, it has something a bit more traditional. Grab yours for iPad or for iPhone.

I'm looking forward to all kinds of good things this month...what fun plans do you have for May?

calendar // print and post a butterfly

Hello, April! I'm excited to see the new life springing up this month! I'm also excited to have a butterfly gracing my new calendar and all kinds of lovely, fluttery ideas planned. Seriously, I hope you don't get sick of all the butterflies that will be hanging out on Wild Olive in April.

For now, we start with the calendar. There is a printable/traceable page, as well as a wallpaper version in a variety of common sizes, including tablet and phone dimensions.

To use the iPhone and iPad versions, click the link for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

Someone mentioned that they miss the coordinating wallpapers that work well for your home screen, and I like those too. So, while I can't promise that I'll do these extras every month, here's one for April! Grab a hexagon flower wallpaper for iPad or for iPhone.

Finally, it's April Fool's Day, but I don't have any pranks for you. Instead, today only, save 25% in my Etsy shop with the code NOJOKE. Enter it into the coupon code box at checkout for the least foolish thing you can do all day!

calendar: august is for the birds

This month, I have something a little different for the calendar. Sort of. First, it's a bird and feathers. I'm not super keen on these things in real life, but as a drawing on my computer screen, I'm okay with it. But it's also a different style from my usual look. I was aiming for something a bit more folk-scandinavian, and used some inspiration from this wreath mobile project.

What this also means is that August will have a few bird and feather projects and printables! I've even teamed up with Nancy from Do Small Things with Love to do a mini blog hop. So...be thinking of bird posts and projects, because we'd love to see and share what you're working on with this theme!

For now, get your computer, tablet or phone ready for August!

Or, if you would like to use these feathers past August or in future years, I've also made some without the calendar part!

To use the patterns for tiling, on your desktop settings, choose "Tile". The patterns for tiling will also work as a background on things like Twitter! A feather background would be pretty perfect on Twitter, right?

Look out though! August will fly by if you're not careful!

calendar: july is for books

I love books. I always have. Do I get to read as many as I would like? No. But I still take in my fair share of book content, when you count my ever-growing craft/sewing/embroidery/DIY collection. If books like this counted in the summer reading program at the library (they don't, do they?), I'd be winning. But whatever kind of reading you enjoy, there's no denying that summer (like any time!) is a great time for books.

Because of my love of books, as well as the number of books that I'm looking forward to sharing with you soon, I've decided that July should be book month here on Wild Olive. Not everything will be reading related, but I'll surely be featuring plenty of book posts, patterns, projects and printables!

It's not quite July yet, but you can get ready with these wallpapers!

To use the iPhone and iPad versions, click the link for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

calendar: june is for grilling

Tomorrow is June, and that's when I feel like summer starts. It doesn't matter that the weather has been warm (and then cold and then warm again), or that many people have finished school already, or that the official start of summer is weeks from now. June is summer.

And grilling season! I had hoped that all of the wallpapers this year would have some folksy-ness to them, and a grill doesn't exactly scream folk art. But it felt right. Especially with Father's Day coming up. (You're totally gonna want to embroider this grill for dad, right?) And I can go back to my plan for the rest of the year.

For now, decorate your computer, tablet or phone with a grill and a calendar!

I'm going to miss the Lily of the Valley from last month, but June's calendar will probably inspire me to make some black bean burgers soon. I'm not a vegetarian, but I often go in disguise as one!

May Calendar

Hello, May 1st! I'm a little startled to see you so soon. Had I known you would turn up now, I would have prepared a little more...

I suppose there's no excuse for my being surprised to see May 1st come right after April 30th. But then, I kept thinking it was earlier in April. Like, you know...the first week? Anyway, let's move on.

Lily of the Valley is a May flower (not the kind to bring pilgrims), and my grandma's birthday was in May. She loved these tiny blooms, and I am inclined to agree. We have some that grow near our driveway, so whenever possible, we grab a few stems to bring inside to enjoy. They smell so sweet! (Of course, now that I've learned how poisonous they are, we'll be a bit more cautious, lest the cat get into them!)

Adorn your desktop or digital device with some flowers, and prepare for a few more lily of the valley items throughout the month. (Wait till you see the embroidery pattern...it's vintage cute!)

Happy May Day!

calendar: a quilty april

Tomorrow is Easter and the day after that is April. Wow. Although Easter in March can make it seem like time is passing more quickly, I'm embracing the coming of April. I'm excited for what it brings, including a bit more blog project making. Yes, I look forward to that very much.

I chose some quilty hexagons for this month's calendar, with the hope that it will give me good reason to share some projects with a similar theme. Sound good? I hope so.

To use the iPhone and iPad versions, click the link for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

Have a very happy, blessed Easter tomorrow! He is Risen!

calendar: kites for march

In the midst of last week's Mario goodness, March snuck in like a lamb. Not actually though. We've got lion weather (so much snow!), but the calendar page seemed to quietly turn to this new month. Not gonna lie, I'm a little dismayed* because now in less than one month Easter will be here, along with a big deadline of mine.

Oh boy. Let's not talk about it anymore, okay?

Instead, let's think about kites flying through the clouds! I've got some kite posts brewing for March, and it starts with some desktop wallpaper. You've got your choice of sizes, so take your pick below.

To use the iPhone and iPad versions, click the link for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

Or, if you would like to use these clouds past March or in future years, I've also made some without the calendar part!

To use the patterns for tiling, on your desktop settings, choose "Tile". The patterns for tiling will also work as a background on things like Twitter!

* Although I'm a wee bit dismayed, I'm holding onto a verse I recently memorizeD: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9) It keeps coming up, so apparently, I have something to learn!

project: mario pipe tech case

Mario Pipe Tech Case

When I picture Super Mario Bros., one of the first images that comes to mind is a green pipe. They are perfect for transporting Mario between levels, and they are just the right size for storing an iPhone or other device! Just watch out, because you might find that instead of your phone rising out of the pipe, it might be something a bit more dangerous...

Mario Pipe Tech Case

Oh no! It's a piranha plant!

Truth: I can't get enough of pulling this plant out of the pipe case...it brings me great joy, as I hope it does for you. Let's make one!

You will need:
Green felt (I used wool blend from Joann)
Green embroidery floss
Scissors
Needle

Piranha Plant Wallpaper (one size fits most...if it doesn't work for you, let me know your optimum size!)

Mario Pipe Tech Case
Mario Pipe Tech Case

The first step is to cut your felt pieces. The size will vary for different devices, so here's how you figure it out.

Fold a piece of felt and lay your device on top. With the fold at the bottom, the doubled felt should be about 1/2-3/4 inch taller than the device. Pinch or pin the felt along the edges to see how wide to cut the strip. It should accommodate the thickness of your phone or tablet, plus give a bit of seam allowance. Cut the strip.

Cut two pieces for the top of the pipe. They should be a little wider than the main pipe strip and a height that is proportionate to the overall height of the case. The piece for my iPod Touch case is 1-1/4 inch tall.

Mario Pipe Tech Case

With the main strip still folded in half, use running stitch to sew up the two sides. It's a good idea to make sure your device will fit before you get too far. This is your chance to give it a perfect fit...a slightly snug case will keep things from falling out easily!

Mario Pipe Tech Case

Hold the two pipe toppers together and sew one side. Wrap the topper around the open end of the pipe and start sewing across the front. Repeat, sewing up the other edge and continuing across the back.

Mario Pipe Tech Case

Faster than you can get through level 1-1, you've got yourself a new case!

Mario Pipe Tech Case

On its own, I like the pipe, but when that piranha plant rises up, it really completes the project. Download the wallpaper to your device and use it for the lock screen. Then, just as you're pulling it out of the pipe, start it up for some Mario enemy fun!

calendar: arrows for february

Yay for February! I'm excited about making lots of things with arrows this month, and it starts with fancying up your computer, phone or tablet. Not gonna lie...I'm rather in love with this wallpaper.

My friend Alex pointed out that last month's patterned background was a wee bit busy (yes, yes...a good reason to have less files on your desktop!). So this time around I aimed (pun intended!) for something a little more subtle. Not sure how he'll feel about the pinkness, but hey! It's February after all!

Get your device of choice all set for this new month with a download below.

To use the iPhone and iPad versions, click the link for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

Or, if you would like to use these arrows past February or in future years, I've also made some without the calendar part!

To use the patterns for tiling, on your desktop settings, choose "Tile". The patterns for tiling will also work as a background on things like Twitter! But I should note, the arrows go straight across and not at an angle as on the other items. Still cute, though, I hope?

Alright...bring on the pink and red and arrows and love!

Blog Buddies Kit

This week I finished up and added a new digital kit over at Kitschy Digitals! It's the only place to get these Blog Buddies, which come with papers, borders and tags, and of course the characters!

To go along with this, I thought it would be fun to make some wallpapers for iPads and iPhones...very bloggy things to have, yes? I couldn't help but make one with a phone on there. A phone on your phone? Yeah, I like that.

Blog Buddies Wallpapers

To use these, click the link below for the wallpaper you want. When it opens, touch and hold the image until it pops up with the option to save. After you've saved the image, go to your settings, choose wallpaper, then find the image you've just saved.

Now...which will you choose? I think I'm starting with the Hoop. But then, I might just download them all, and switch them up daily!

JUST ADDED: Computer desktops! They are all one size (very large) so you'll just need to find the right setting for "fitting" or "filling" on your computer.

wallpaper: cloudy sky

Clouds Wallpaper

Every month, I share a calendar wallpaper for your computer, and now iPhone or iPad. But I got to thinking that it would be fun to have some non-calendar wallpapers around here too. So from time to time, I'll start adding them.

To start, how about some clouds for your screen? At least one of them is happy, but the others probably are too...they're just hiding their faces for now.

Grab your wallpaper and your days will feel a bit less gray and cloudy. At least, that's the hope.

And just as a reminder, if you're in the Chicago area, I'm having a Stitch Together on Saturday! I'd love to see you there!

calendar: print and post for february

february

Welcome February! I'm really so very happy you're here! I love that you're a rather pink month, especially coming off of a blue gray January.

Last month was the first time that I've made a wallpaper for iPhones, and somehow I never put it on my own iPod Touch. Silly me. This time around, I put it on there a few days early, and I'm already enjoying its rosiness. (What can I say? Simple things make me happy!)

Download your own iPhone wallpaper or calendar desktop background for your computer, and join me in a very pink month!

Prefer the analog method? Download the printable version, and tack it up on your bulletin board!

calendar: print and post for january

january calendar

Hello, New Year! It's time to start a new calendar, and even though 2011 was good, I still love new years! In 2012, I'll be releasing a new calendar page each month. Unlike last year, they won't just be digital for your computer screen...they'll also be printable!

The pages are sweet and simple. Tack them up on your wall, keep them handy for reference, x each day and watch them fly by!

But I've still got the digital version for your computer desktop...and now your iPhone too! (The iPhone version doesn't have the calendar, just the snowflake) There are several sizes to choose from:

Welcome to January, friends! This is going to be a great month full of craftiness and some new inspiration. Oh, and say hello to my new and returning sponsors!
