my favorite upcoming book

Congrats

The other day I received this card in the mail from Kimberly. Clearly she knows me well: happy toast and a clever pun? Perfect! Seriously one of my favorite cards of all time. And it congratulates me on one of my favorite pieces of news of all time.

It has to do with this:

Book1

July has become Book Month here on Wild Olive, and I've been enjoying sharing some new titles with you (I'll soon be sharing some new-to-me books as well!). But this notebook has to do with my favorite upcoming book. Why? This notebook holds the majority of my sketches for the book that I'm working on.

It feels nice to type that. It has been in the works, and will continue to be in the works for a while, with an expected publication date in 2015. It's a long way off, but there's lots to do before then! Still, because it's far off, I don't really want to give away too much. I don't want to be secretive, but surprises are nice, I think.

Book2

I go back and forth between not wanting to talk about it (even here at home!) and wanting to go on and on. It's exciting, but it also feels normal (in the sense that there's work to be done!). There's been lots of drawing and sewing and writing already. And in the process I've found that I like to treat myself to real linen to stitch on, and that in general, fabric brings happiness. (Just look at those happy little swatches!) These are the things you don't expect to learn about yourself while writing a book.

Someday soon I'll share some of the story of how this came about (God orchestrated this!), but for now, you need a little teaser of a description. My book will, I think, be the kind of book that I would want to buy, with projects and lots of embroidery. In some ways it's different from most of what I do, but still VERY me...and it has stretched me already!

The rest of the year will find me stitching, stitching, stitching (and trying very hard to keep up around here)!

Anyway, I hope it's okay to say that my not-yet-officially-titled book is my favorite. I know that you all have been a part of helping this come to be, and I thank you.

  14. WOW! That is so wonderful! I wrote a book once - a physics text - so not NEARLY as exciting and creative. Wouldn't recommend reading mine - I don't want to read it either. :) Have fun and enjoy the process and the creativity release.

And I LOVE that card. We have a weird thing around here about toast jokes.
