Charms

The other day I treated myself to some charm packs. My first. And now I know that they won't be my last. Even if I never make anything out of the, these little squares of fabric are simply sumptuous.

If you're not familiar with charm packs, these are small cuts of fabric, and you get one (or sometimes more than one) of each design in a fabric line. They are perfect for quilts or small projects. At first, they felt expensive to me, but to get 42 pieces for around the cost of a yard of fabric isn't bad at all. And speaking as someone who doesn't have a huge fabric stash, they are perfect because you get a nice mix of designs that all go together, and you don't have tons of extra laying around.

I bought mine on Etsy from Awesome Quilting, but a search for "charm packs" will turn up lots of options! Here's what I bought:

The photos don't do them justice, and they don't show all that came in the packs. I seriously want to just play with them and arrange them and look at them. And of course, buy more of them, because I already have a few more packs in mind. I think I have a new collection forming...They have me charmed!

  1. Hey there welcome to the fun world of pre-cuts. They have them all the way down to the cutest little one's like 2 inches. You really need to sign into Missouri Quilt Store and look at their daily deals. I have gotten pre-cuts for under a dollar + shipping. You also earn bonus bucks to use any time you want,I'm saving mine for a free piece of fabric. Sometimes it's tools such as rulers, but everyday is a new item. I look there daily sometimes to dream and sometimes to buy. LOL

  2. Watch out... these can be a gateway drug to a serious fabric addiction. Now you can't say you weren't warned. :)

  3. The best part about charm packs is that when you decide to quilt with them you don't usually have to cut them. In fact, you don't *have* to cut them at all, you can just sew a whole quilt from a jellyroll or a charm pack.

  4. I made a ton of hexies recently from PB&J. The mini charm packs are perfect for hexagons. :)

  8. Ooh, pretty! That blue floral in the bottom pack is especially lovely :) I've seen charm packs but have never bought them as I have no idea what to do with them! Thanks to Vicki's link to the MQS, I discovered this cute video tutorial for a a child's charm-pack skirt - except, now I'm totally wanting an adult size one, LOL :) Or maybe a more practical apron...

  11. I love the pattern in that third picture, like a postcard! I really want to make a quilt but all the cutting out of squares seem really tedious, this looks like a good plan!
