Lily of the Valley

Vintage embroidery patterns will always have a charm that just can't be compared with new patterns. I love the work of Sublime Stitching, Follow the White Bunny and many others, but vintage has something special, don't you think? It was that unique look that inspired the pattern I'm sharing today.

It was important to me that the pattern capture the feeling of old with the look of new Wild Olive. And like so many of the patterns I draw, this one has someone I love right there in the stitches. If my grandma (Nanny) were still with us, this embroidery would go to her because lily of the valley was a favorite.

Mine is stitched using the greens and ecru from the Fresh Blooms palette I picked. The face, french knot buds, and the little stems connecting the flowers to the main stems are 3 strands, and everything else is six, with back stitch being my main stitch. I thought the chunky back stitch was a nice modern touch.

This design would be lovely on a tea towel or apron, and my finished embroidery is for a mug rug, which I'll share in a couple days!

  4. That is some really gorgeous embroidery! I remember some event down in Florida that had some cool stuff. You should go to one of those little embroidery showings. I honestly think that you would have a lot of people enjoying them, and probably would even want to buy a few.

  9. What a cute mug rug. I want to thank you for your patterns. In this day of declining budgets for schools and declining salaries for teachers I appreciate the designs. My sixth grade fiber arts class started embroidery today and thanks to your free patterns and floss that I have had since the seventies, I can afford to teach them. They are so excited. One girl is so excited to embroider the cupcakes. Thanks again.

  10. This sweet embroidery makes me think of the old hymn, "He's the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star..." You put a smile on my face today, Mollie!
