u is for ugly mess

Ugly Mess

My mom is very kind in letting me keep my projects out and around. She even gave me my grandma's knitting bowl (on a stand) for a catch all in our living room. But too often, I let it become so terribly cluttered. Which is why today in Alphabet Month, U is for Ugly Mess.

Amazingly, the photo above isn't even that mess at its worst. And I say "that mess" because obviously, it's only one of my messy places.

Ugly Mess

We also have the Ugly Mess Desk...

...and the Ugly Mess pile on the floor in front of my cabinets. Yeah, what you see in this photo is about 10% of the pile. I can't bear to show the rest.

There are more Ugly Messes too, but I still have a little pride left. Ugh.

Maybe for Christmas this year, I should ask Santa to bring a cleaning and organizing elf my way...one that would stay forever, because I know that after this is all tidied up, it will just end up like this again...

Ah, at least it's dry mess. Wet mess would be harder to deal with.

  4. Here is my motto..."Creative minds have messy desks." And that doesn't mean that the mess doesn't seep onto the floor, chairs or any other spot that needs a "pile." :) Don't fret, it happens to all of us! :)

  5. Don't feel bad about your mess...if everything were clean and tidy, then you wouldn't be creating! And your creations are just beautiful...well worth the mess!

  6. God bless you for sharing, Mollie! I find that if I take the time to keep everything organized, I don't have time for crafting!

  7. Those messy piles look like my messy piles but with lots and lots of yarn bags too! I don't think creative people can be tidy? Whilst "tidying" all I can think of is how many more rows of my knitting I could have completed and its eats away at me until... suddenly I'm sat knitting again, ha!

Thank you for sharing your ugly mess :)

  8. yeah my "laundry room" is more like my crafty Ugly Mess room. Piles of felt and bits and bobbins and glue and glitter. An assortment of stuff for my 3 year old to use to make preschooler crafts and for me to use to sew things, decorate the house (like ribbon that hasn't find the right wreath to call home yet) and wrap presents prettily. My husband seems amazed at how much mess I can create in there!

  9. Great! The real creative process. I believe that every activity which grounds on inspiration ends in such a way!=)

  11. Isn't it embarrassing? I have little piles everywhere, and the only tidying happens when a) a project is done or b) people come over and the piles get tucked in the spare room... :)

  12. Mollie, don't be so hard on yourself! What you call "ugly messes," I call "hot spots," in FlyLady terminology. If you're looking for ways to cope with clutter, I recommend flylady.net. She has turned my thinking and therefore my picking-up-after-myself-ing around completely, one small step at a time.
