Lion Treats

Last night we finished up our Babylon Family Bible Adventure, and I wanted to show off a few more ideas that we created. They're fun and easy for using at VBS, or just for your family!

The lion treats above were for last night's closing party. All week we talked about Daniel, so lions were in order! I piped chocolate faces onto vanilla wafers (a lot of them!), then we pressed them into a scoop of orange sherbet. They look fairly impressive, but went together really quickly!

Cylinder Seal Printing

I tweeted about these last week, and here they are! These are jumbo pool noodles, which I cut down, then carved into with a wood burner. (Smelly, but easy!) They are so fun to print with! Here they are in action:

The prints are really big, and it was lovely seeing them taped up on the walls to dry!

Hanging Garden Planter

One of the craft stations or "marketplace stalls" this week was a Hanging Garden Nursery. We weren't able to afford buying lots of the suggested crafts, so thankfully, we had a creative friend come up with this alternative, which I like even better!

He cut plywood shapes, then cut a hole in the center for a cup, and holes in the corners for twine. Kids decorated with crayons and planted little flowers...fun! At the end of the night, our craftsman made his own extra-large version!

Bottle Xylophone

Finally, just for fun, I made a bottle xylophone from Izze bottles. It was even almost in tune! Adults and kids alike enjoyed giving this a try, and it added a bit of music to the marketplace. Make one! Your family will love it! (Also, please note, I don't endorse glass near pools...this was only for a quick photo op!)

This is the last of my Babylon talk...After 100s of hours of prep (and a fantastic team and family working together to make it happen!), I'm ready for a bit of rest. But not for long, because I have big things to work on. Including thinking about next year's Family Bible Adventure "trip" to Athens!

  6. I was a director of bible school for two years. Those crafts are always so expensive. Small church=small budget. It forces you to get creative sometimes. Love the plant hanger!
