project: lacy eyelet headband

eyelet headband

So, my sister and a friend found this really cute tutorial for making an infinity scarf that has a section of wide lace trim in it. Do you think I can find the link? No. Anyway, my sister went and found this lovely wide eyelet at Hobby Lobby, and I stole asked if I could have some of it for a little project.

For a long time, I've loved the headbands from Garlands of Grace, and at last I placed my order. While I wait form them to arrive, I thought I might try making something similar. Of course, theirs are far superior, and also more versatile, but this took me just a few minutes to put together, and I really like it!

Here's what you need:
Wide lace or eyelet (mine was 2.5 inches wide and 16.5 inches long)
Ribbon - 36 inches, cut in half
Embroidery floss
Pins/Needle/Scissors

With the wrong side of the eyelet facing up, fold one end in about 1/2 inch. Hold a piece of ribbon in place over the fold.

Fold in the two edges of the eyelet, and pin in place.

Stitch a few rows of running stitch. (You could also do this with a sewing machine.)

Repeat on the other side. I like to trim my ribbon with points. It helps prevent fraying, but it's also cute!

And here's how the back looks! I love the combination of lacy eyelet with a bow in the back. And just think...you could make a bunch of them with different colors of ribbon!

  1. Mollie,

I see you are up early and hard at work already. Have I told you how much I love your site. No, really. Do you understand just how much I love to come here everyday and see the wonderful things you have done? I might not write daily but I check daily and I LOVE your site.
Yesterday's speech bubbles are great and I wondered if I could take the pattern to a printer and get notepads made - you know, maybe even sticky notes. How awesome would those be? Very awesome but not as awesome as you are Mollie. I know you can't see it but I'm doing the wave just for you.

  2. Like I said before... 'kindred spirit' you are (Yoda I sound like)! I have just been dreaming up a doily hairband... and then, boom - you made one here. ha!
I was trying to figure out putting elastic in mine, but this is so much simpler, thanks Mollie - you sweet soul.
