the story of: how we would improve life

Last week, I shared the story of the Fisherman and His Wife. In this story, the fisherman's wife had some grand plans for improving her life, and well, it got a little out of hand. I think it's important for each of us to be content, and yet, it's also a good thing to improve and get better. And let's face it...we all have things that we could use in our lives!

If I could improve my life, one thing I would ask for is to be more naturally neat and tidy, because I'm a mess! I asked my sponsors what they would like to improve their lives, and this is what they said:

Janee
If I could ask for one thing to improve my life, I'd probably have to go with gentleness. I seem to have a way of being more harsh and abrupt than I mean to be. There is a time and a place to be upset, but even in those times I think a touch of gentility can go a long way.

I would ask for more time. I feel like these days and moments are fleeting, and there's not enough time in a day to cherish each moment fully, follow all my dreams, pay attention to my family, take care of myself - all that vital stuff that I'm otherwise trying to squish in altogether and catch as it flies by! Life would be so much easier if there were a million more hours in a day and they went by really slowly.

Internet at home! It sounds strange, but seriously, no internet at home- always having to go into my husband's work, or to my parent's house, gets very tiresome after a while! Very hard to manage a blog and online shop like that!

If I could ask for one thing, it would be better time management skills. I can do a lot in one day, but sometimes I get off track. I have a million ideas and goals that I want to accomplish, I just need to fit it all in!

Some of my sponsors answered my first question, and also had some ideas for how they would help improve the lives of others. Here's what they said:

Melisa
hmmm... I know this may sound lame, but I am very content with my life right now. I know that time will improve it, because of the changes that will take place, but I don't know that I'm really in wanting of anything. I think if I had to pick something right now though, it would be a puppy!! ha. But really, I would love love to have a dog in my life!

I would ask that others would have love, happiness and eternal life

Andee
My husband and I just celebrated our one year anniversary (yay!) and we are ready to start a family. So the one thing that I wish for is easy pregnancies, followed by a sweet little nest of children to welcome into our family.

And as for improving the lives of others, I really have a heart for women who have been sexually, emotionally, and physically abused. My wish for others is that all the hurting women would be able to trade their beauty for ashes and have their broken hearts healed.

What a hard question to figure out the 'right' answer to! I can think of many things that would make my life better, but if I could have any one thing, I would have to ask for peace. At the risk of sounding like a pageant contestant, peace would be the catalyst to a better life for all of us.

If I could have peace and still get to choose one thing to make someone else's life better, I would ask that the surgery in the works for my mister be successful. He was in an accident 11 years ago that left him handicapped, and we met with an orthopedic surgeon the other day who believes that he can fix his leg. I can't begin to tell you what that would mean to the quality of his life!

My life is pretty awesome and I'm quite happy .... but, if we're wishing for stuff .... I would love to not have to work a day-job any more. Not that I want to just loll around the house and watch The Real Housewives of [insert some over-dramatic city here], but I could do so much more meaningful work if I didn't have that day-job taking up 50 hours a week.

Many members of my friends and family could use a little help, but mostly I feel bad for accidently kicking my husband and cracking one of his ribs.... Ooops! Poor thing can't even sit up without a little pain. I'd love for that to heal a bit more quickly!

My answer covers both questions. I am getting married in three months, and what would really improve my life and my husband-to-be's is to find an apartment. Right now I live with my parents, which I am so grateful for, but it makes me feel like going to college never happened. I am back where I started. And Chris's place was where we had intended to stay for a while, but the neighbors continue to make it an unsafe place to live. A home should be your sanctuary from the chaos of the day, but it seems like an endless quest to find ours.

So many great answers! It's things like this that make me love and appreciate these ladies even more. Be sure to visit them, and the rest of my friends and sponsors. They help make Wild Olive a better place!

And how about you? How would you improve your life or the life of someone else?

I have true joy with my life but if I could ask for anything, it would be the ability to learn languages easily.

  2. Pretty neat to see what others are "feeling" on this subject. Wanting to improve life doesn't mean you're ungrateful for the one you have, just you want to use your powers and talents and abilities to the max. I used to think that being modest (like reeeeally modest) is a good thing, and in some cases (or context) it is. But striving for more is better:)

  3. I wouldn't mind being a little more 'neat' myself. To learn the habit of leaving enough time to put something away when I'm done using it.
I'd also love to "find the pony" more. My dad always used to tell the joke of the optimist and pessimist kids each in a room with a pile of manure. One gets so upset over the smell and the look of it all. The other just digs right in and starts slinging it all around. "What are you doing??" the supervisor asks.
"Well, with all this poop, there's BOUND to be a pony in here somewhere!!!"
Poop jokes. A ten year old loves a poop joke. But it reminds me that I should look for the pony more often.

  5. MORE TIME YES! Since having my daughter, I wish the day had 2 more hours (in which she preferably sleeps, of course)

  6. I can totally relate to Janee. I am harsh and abrupt sometimes, too, just because I don't think people need to be babied. But maybe sometimes I could chill out and be nice. ;)
