make a doily headband...

doily headband

Do you love doilies as much as I do? I was looking at my first successfully crocheted doily (ok, still my ONLY successfully crocheted doily), and had an idea. What if it became a flower, and what if that flower decorated a headband? That could be fun!

doily headband

You'll need a doily (mine was about 5.5" diameter), embroidery floss, and an elastic headband.

doily headband

Start by shaping the doily into a flower. Tie it in place. (I used a bit of the crochet thread that I trimmed off, but you could use floss.)

Then take a long length of embroidery floss and tie onto the flower.

Wrap the floss tightly around the base of the flower. The closer to get to the ruffle part, the tighter your flower will be, which can be helpful if your doily is large.

Before tying off the floss, wrap it around your headband several times. Do a bit of criss-cross so that it will stay in place and not droop. Now, secure the floss with a few knots, and trim.

You're all set to wear your new doily flower headband!

  2. Oh, lovely!! And your doily is gorgeous! Is the pattern you used online? I'm still so new to it, but my first doily attempt failed quite miserably (well, I got the inner circles done, and then missed stitches, so the rest of it seemed to funnel inward like a hat...lol). This makes me want to try again. :)

  3. The doily pattern that I used is from the book "Learn to Do Symbol Crochet Doilies", and I used a larger thread and hook than they called for.

What a great idea, i've always loved crocheting doilies - about the only thing that I crochet well. It's great to come across a practical use for them (besides as decorations or for putting on tables etc
