1000 (a very special giveaway)...

1000!

Yowza! 1000 posts! 500 seems like it was not that long ago, but then, I have been blogging more lately. And a confession: I have blogged more often, knowing that this was coming up, and I've been excited about it.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I'm holding my biggest giveaway yet! But I don't want to get ahead of myself, so let me tell a little bit of what is on my heart.

If you have been a reader for a while, you may be aware that I have a passion for the work of World Vision. With the help of my readers and shop customers, last year we put together 45 Caregiver Kits. This year, I'll do more of that, but I've also felt led towards some other World Vision projects.

In so many parts of the world, women and girls do not have the same opportunities in life that we do. I am privileged and so are you. Even if times are really tough. If you're reading this, no matter how or where you're reading it, you've got it good compared to a lot of women. So I've set up a fundraising page. My goal is to raise $1200 in the next year. Which is a lot. But it can happen with small gifts from you. Just think about that.

Now, the giveaway.

singer

What's the prize? A SEWING MACHINE!

This is a little different from other giveaways, because the winner here, isn't just the person whose name gets chosen. The real winner is the woman in a country far from here who will receive the sewing machine.

If you are chosen, you will receive a card from World Vision saying that a sewing machine was given in your name. And someone that you and I will never meet will get the chance to start her own small business. Wow!

Yes, this may seem like a strange giveaway, but to be honest my real goal here is to tell people about the amazing work of World Vision.

So...there are a lot of ways to enter:

1. Leave your name and location in a comment.

2. Visit World Vision's donation page, then tell me which item touched your heart in a comment.

3. Blog about this giveaway, then leave a link to the post in a comment.

4. Tweet about this giveaway, then tell me that in a comment.

5. Make a donation (any amount!) on my fundraising page, then tell me in a comment.

6. Do all of those things, then tell me that you did in a comment.

(Remember, if you win, you will not receive the sewing machine prize. Your prize is that a sewing machine is being donated in your name.)

This giveaway will go until next Wednesday. Help me spread the word about this gift that we can give, and let's be prepared for good things! Ready? Go!

UPDATE: Per Liz's request, there is a button you can grab for my fundraising page...it's down on the right with the other buttons. Thanks!

  5. Unfortunately, there are so many choices on the site. It's hard to pick just one area to help. I start with the Orphans/Widows and Kids in the USA since adoption has been a big topic in the last few weeks in my life but there is an area that calls a little stronger to me.

Clean Water is one of the most basic human needs. The human body is roughly 60% water and even the earth is about 71% covered in it but still it's not accessible to everyone. We need it to survive as humans not only directly but indirectly to grow crops/animals that provide another sustenance in food.

I know how I feel in the shower after 3 days of camping with full restrooms even and learning about these kits makes me think about what it could feel like after a month or even a year without a damp cloth to wipe off much less a shower.

For a few years clean water has been a reoccurring theme when it comes to world projects. In college we learned about projects to dig wells or even recycled barrels which help transport the water which saves time for the village. My favorite was a project which installed a piece of playground equipment (the large round thing that spins - whatever it's called) that acted like a pump for the well. (Can you tell I love at least 2/1 accomplishments- I mean recycling and saving time and playing and pumping! haha)

The foot pump seems like it can do just that- pull water from a source and bring it to where it's needed- for showers/washing and even crops and animal troughs.

  9. Hi, I'm Christina from Queensland, Australia. Malnutrition touches my heart. As a mother, I can't imagine how it must feel to not be in a position when you can provide for your child and have to watch your child suffer.

  26. Mollie, this is such a wonderful idea and your generosity inspires me!

My delay in replying was due to adding up my pennies to see how much of a donation I could afford and unfortunately I found myself overspent and unable to donate this month or perhaps even next. But I hope you'll accept a pledge from me to donate something in the future when I'm able to.

I love that whoever wins, the prize will go to the one who most deserves it.

Just in case you didn't know, this is Katie from Bristol, UK :P
